How Far We’ve Come: From Humble Beginnings to Our Open House

How Far We’ve Come: From Humble Beginnings to Our Open House

May 6, 2026Bruce Burman

There’s something special happening at SilverStream Coffee Roasters right now.

You can feel it in the conversations at the Airstream. You could feel it at our recent open house. You can feel it every time someone tries us for the first time and comes back to share a cup of coffee with a friend.

But when more than 200 people walked through the doors at our recent SilverStream Open House, our hearts were filled with so much gratitude.

Not just because of the turnout.

Because of what it meant.

That moment wasn’t about one day. It was a reflection of years of a humble beginning, steady growth, and people choosing to be part of something we’ve been building one faithful step at a time.

Meet the People Behind the Coffee

SilverStream Coffee Roasters team portrait

At its core, SilverStream has always been about serving people well.

Bruce roasting and talking coffee with customers.
Kyle learning the meticulous art and science of roasting.
Jesse showing the steady care and work ethic it takes behind the scenes.
Our baristas serving busy mornings with kindness and consistency.
Customers who have supported us like family.

That’s what makes this coffee company different.

Every bag of SilverStream coffee is roasted in Butler, PA in small batches with intention and consistency by our roaster, Kyle.

From there, it’s shared daily through our Airstream locations in Butler and Cranberry Township, and through the many homes, offices, and routines that trust us each morning.

Bruce has spent years dialing in every detail of roasting—tasting, adjusting, and refining until it’s just right. Our Baseline blend is the result of years of that process, and you can taste it in every cup.

How Far We’ve Come: From Humble Beginnings to Our Open House

Before SilverStream Coffee Roasters, there was Kairos Coffee Roasters and Tea.

SilverStream Coffee Roasters coffee moment

Our first chapter was built on faith, hard work, and the belief that coffee could be something more than a product. It could create connection and build community.

Kairos started operating in a brick-and-mortar in 2006 in Butler, PA before moving into Iron Mountain in Boyers, PA—an employee-only café tucked inside the underground mine.

It wasn’t visible to the public, but it mattered. That season built discipline, relationships, and the foundation of what would later become SilverStream and the notion that in order to serve the best product, we needed to start roasting the coffee ourselves.

When COVID temporarily shut down the Iron Mountain café, we took a step forward with what we had...a bright red vintage horse trailer became a mobile coffee bar. What started as a response to a difficult season quickly became something bigger. People showed up. Conversations happened. A community that felt lost during the pandemic formed into a beautiful new beginning.

Today, that same trailer has become Nutmeg Palace in West Virginia—still serving SilverStream coffee and becoming a great part of our story.

In April 2022, we added an Airstream coffee trailer in Cranberry Township. For many people, that became their first experience with SilverStream. Morning routines were formed there. Familiar faces became friends. Quick stops turned into conversations. Coffee became part of the Cranberry community.

Then came one of the most meaningful milestones yet.

Jesse, who has been part of this story since 2018, stepped into ownership of the Iron Mountain location—turning years of faithfulness and hard work into a dream fulfilled.

“I never actually wanted to franchise in the beginning. I wanted to fully run my own thing. I've wanted to do it for many years even before I worked for Bruce.

Once I came to work for Bruce I found someone who was constantly looking to push his employees to succeed and who really cared to see others successful around him. Not only in the workplace but in their personal lives as well.

This was what changed my mind around Franchising. I saw someone who was going to push me to realize the most I can for myself personally and who challenged me to constantly push my own standard higher and to never settle for just ok. Always looking towards the best for me, customers, and staff to ensure they are taken care of.

I saw a management style that challenged what I had seen and experienced as I worked for other companies. Bruce challenged what the norm was for a manager and that also pushed me to work to better my own approaches not just in my professional life.”

From there, things continued to grow.

An online store. Another Airstream: a drive-thru at the roastery in Butler. New ways to connect with people both in person and at home.

But our heart stayed the same.

Simple, well-roasted coffee. Served with care. Built around people.

And then came the open house.

Seeing you felt like a big family gathering—you supporting us and sharing it with the people you care about. It meant more to us than we can put into words.

Because this was never built alone.

Every visit. Every order. Every conversation. Every recommendation.

You helped build this.

What started with humble beginnings has grown one faithful step at a time.

From Kairos, to Iron Mountain, to the horse trailer, to the Airstream, to carrying the legacy forward, to the relationships built along the way—

Our story belongs to more than us now.

It belongs to every person who has been part of it.

And we're just getting started.

The Best Part of What We’re Building

It isn’t the growth.
It isn’t the equipment.
It isn’t even the coffee (well… maybe a little).

It’s the people who keep showing up, bringing friends, ordering online, and making SilverStream feel like something more than just a business.
